Belated Craft Show Round Up

CT and I joined Donnie, Auntie Daph and Auntie Peg on a jaunt to the Brisbane Craft Show 10 days ago. We went last year too and we had just as much fun this time. CT will tell you the highlight was the chippies and quilts. The most embarrassing mummy moments were at quilt show as CT was determined no one would touch the quilts… Donnie stocked up on “Happy Christmas” (one wonders what CT will call Christmas next year); Auntie Daph Japanese fabrics and pretty hair for you-can-guess-who; while Auntie Peg and I wildly encouraged each other to buy yarn, hooks and yarn-type projects. Oh I also found these patterns from this lovely lady at this shop (will need to go in person) and secret squirrels… I really enjoyed the day out and have been steadily making progress on the crochet projects but not the squirrels. I need more time to concentrate on the squirrels and lately between work/mummy duties/project work, my brain has been too mushy to even attempt something that requires too much thinking.

5 Pound Post

This posts comes courtesy of the 5 pounds that Jen (of Painted Fish Studio fame) helped me find as part of her Halloween care package. How did I find 5 pounds?? Just ask CT as she started to unpack the wonderful surprises that were in that box. Naturally, none of the adults got a look in on the goldfish and what you can’t see is the massive packet of Halloween M&Ms which emerged not too long after the candy corn. Thank you Jen, for educating us as to what candy corn actually is. And to think that I assumed that my friends in the north east Pacific and beyond coated corn kernels in sugar for years. Thank you for solving that mystery for Donnie and me. I plead cultural ignorance.

Other delights in the box were a printed tea towel  which was immediately press ganged into service; that really groovy monster light which Donnie, CT and I love (CT has started a whole the sun is going down so I must turn on the light routine going); a matching monster Halloween banner (useful on Saturday night, one also hopes those poor wags who came to the door got over the shock of a dripping wet and naked tot); matching monster straws (most useful for CT’s tall enamel ware cups); Dora Halloween stickers (the mystery object in CT’s hands); the fab Halloween picture book (just in front of CT and is a hit) and finally a mixed media magazine (so many wonderful ideas and Jen, you need to learn some BASIC sewing. Honestly there are so many collages that I can see you making). Quite a small package, no?? Honestly Jen, you spoil us too much. The only downside about this parcel is that we opened it not too long before Miss CT’s dinner (not exactly an Einstein inspired moment). Needless to say that candy corn, M&Ms and goldfish were not on the menu much to an outraged side kick….

We have a winner

My apologies for the tardy on announcing the giveaway winner. I gave Donnie the magic buka basket and she pulled out lucky number 2. That would be Shannon who said: “Congratulations on your blogoversary!”

Also a big thank you to all who participated, I’ve been enjoying checking out your blogs. Thanks for the congrats to. Just to clarify, December will see my 2 year crafty blog anniversary. I defected to wordpress in October this year. So I guess there will be a 2 year blog giveaway too…. (Just to confuse all in sundry like….)

From Little Things Big Things Grow

The phrase From Little Things Big Things Grow has been on the internal radio since I heard it on an tv commercial for a superannuation fund. I liked it that much that I decided that I needed to hear the whole song. Can you imagine my surprise when I discovered that the song From Little Things Big Things Grow is actually about Indigenous Australian poverty?? I am still wondering why and how a poverty protest rock song is selling superannuation…

Anyhoos, so today it is all about little things becoming big things. CT is growing too fast. She’s the garden fairy with fly away hair and very definite opinions. It’s scary how quickly kids grow.

The other little thing growing is this. Arg, don’t like the acrylic wool I am using but CT fell in love with the colour of this wool at our local supermarket. Love the pattern and effect but it isn’t the most user friendly product.

My Bedside

Confession time (I’m good at these), I’ve had a brain fart and misplaced the SD card for Happy’s Nikon SLR. Drat where are the snaps of Jen’s Happy mail and the craft fair?????

Promises there will be a post or two on that front. It does mean that I needed a back up post. Lots of peoplewere sharing their bedsides over the weekend, so I am today. I will admit that the bedside looks lame. The table is ace, it’s a handmade by someone in Happy’s family. The hex table top is an inlaid chess table. The bedside lamp has been with me since I was 6 (I hate pink but the lamp is lucky), the radio alarm clock a family antique (personally love how white plastic gets that yellow stain), baby monitor (because CT lives upstairs to my downstairs) and sorbolene is a must.

Where are the books? With me, naturally. In rotation at the moment, Sew Hip (summer edition), Jen’s sashiko book (drool), kiddie crochet pattern book (adventures await),  a murder mystery (Ian Rankin to be exact) and a cheeky monkey (optional weekend extra but oh so much fun). Crochet is well hidden from the monkey girl but it’s lurking there too. Love the white on white quilt thanks for sharing Donnie.

Giveaway time

A thought has just occurred to me. I have been writing in this space for over a year. Hang on, I want to know where that year went?? In honour of the year that has been, the changes that have occurred (for better or worse) and to fit into blogtober, it’s time for a giveaway.

In honour of the year gone: the handmade involves a pretty hair and crochet; the notions include ric rac and lots of pink; the fabric is pink and seeing that I like surprises, there will be lots of other goodies. The photo is only a teaser.  Naturally, the giveaway ends at the end of blogtober (ie next Saturday on the 31st of October) and to enter you need to leave a comment here as well.

Cheerio, there is a crochet bullion pendant and a kiddo shell cluster throw beckoning me from the other side of the room.

Happy Feet

A good friend of mine was very generous and gave me two very fine pairs of summer shoes when I came home. Unfortunately, both pair decided to go to shoe heaven about a fortnight ago. So I have been either wearing winter shoes and socks (hot feet = eczema) or wearing a pair of shoes that Donnie loaned me (small instep shoes vs large instep feet = puffy feet). Thing is that I have a very large instep and Donnie doesn’t. This morning I did something about it and voila, one very happy pair of feet.

Obviously you have dropped in to see what was in Jen’s parcel or hear about the craft show but,  I didn’t realise how unhappy my feet have been. I just had to share the joy.

Ah Shucks

I arrived home too late to go pick this up from the post office yesterday.

Ah Shucks, the wireless and my computer wouldn’t communicate with each other, so I couldn’t post. Yipee, Happy went and picked up the parcel when I went here this morning. Ah Shucks, CT was asleep when we got home and is still asleep. It wouldn’t be fair to open it without her now, would it? Ah Shucks, it is going to kill me not to open it until then…..
